FAQ
Total Dissolved Solids E-mail
Referred to as Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) this is a measurement of all the other materials that are dissolved in the water that neither a softener nor iron filtration device will touch. Also measured in Parts per Million (PPM), a typical TDS level in our area ranges from around 180 to well over 1,000.  A clean water source is less than 50 PPM and really clean Reverse-Osmosis (R/O) water will be below 10 PPM. The difference in both aesthetics and healthfulness of R/O water is dramatic and immediate. Dim lights Embed Embed this video on your site

Hard Water E-mail
Hardness is measured in Grains per Gallon (GPG) is a representation of how much dissolved rock (calcium and magnesium) there is in your water. The Water Quality Association (www.wga.org) provides a scale against which your water can be qualified. 0 GPG = Completely rock free and therefore “soft” water 0 – 3.5 = Moderately hard water 3.5 – 7 = Hard water 7 – 10.5 = Very hard water (Lake Michigan water is in this category) Above 10.5 GPG is extremely hard water Dim lights Embed Embed this video on your site

Chlorine E-mail
Chlorine is used by nearly every municipality in the country to kill microorganisms in the water system. It is very effective in this regard and yet ought to be removed as it enters your home. Chlorine will bleach out your clothing, dry your skin and hair and will also become a gas when heated (as in a bath or shower) where it can then be inhaled. If the thought of inhaling chlorine gas causes concern, it should, and we have a number of systems to remove every bit of it from your home. Dim lights Embed Embed this video on your site

Iron E-mail

The iron in well water comes in two basic forms: ferrous and ferric. Iron is measured in Parts per Million (PPM) and, surprisingly, it takes as little as .3 PPM to cause staining (that’s 3 tenths of one part per million!). A softener can handle a moderate amount of Ferrous iron but Ferric iron will pass straight through, thus requiring a dedicated system to address it.

pH E-mail
The pH scale is a measurement of the acidity (on the low end) or alkalinity (on the high end) of water. The scale runs from 0 to 14, with 7 being dead center and also representing a neutral state (neither acidic nor alkaline) and is the level that water should be at. There is a great deal of hype and misinformation across the web on numerous topics dealing with the Ph of a wide variety of things. Be very cautious of who is trying to sell you what when it comes to the Ph of water, your body or your food. Dim lights Embed Embed this video on your site
